Our Work

Impact & Reports

As a charitable institute, we owe it to our members, supporters and the public to be honest about what we are achieving — and what we are not, yet. This page sets out how we think about impact, and where you'll find our formal reporting as it is published.

How we think about impact

Four levels we hold ourselves to

Activity is easy to count. Real impact is harder, and takes longer to show. This is the framework we use to be honest with ourselves about the difference.

For learners

We want more people — of every age and background — to understand how they learn, to study more effectively, and to grow in confidence and independence as a result. When learners become more reflective and self-aware, the benefits reach far beyond any single exam or course: they learn how to keep learning for life.

For educators and practitioners

We want teachers, tutors, coaches and other professionals to have ready access to the best understanding of how people learn, and the practical means to apply it. By strengthening the people who support learners every day, we multiply our impact many times over.

For institutions

We want schools, colleges, universities and other organisations to be able to draw on evidence-informed practice with confidence, and to see the value of metacognition and effective learning reflected in how they teach and support their people.

For the wider world

We want to raise public understanding of effective learning, contribute a credible voice to the questions facing education, and help build a culture that values learning well — not just learning more.

Reporting

Our formal reports

As a young charity, our reporting history is just beginning. Reports will appear here as they are published.

Honest reporting is part of how we keep the trust of the people we work for.
